Class Description
TCR Summer Programs offer intensive workshops in history, research, and writing for high school students. These workshops provide a structured environment where students can work on historical research projects on topics of their choosing.
Students begin the program with a research topic and spend two weeks developing it into a solid outline for a historical research paper—a long-term project that typically takes two to six months to complete after the camp ends. Throughout the program, they engage in various activities, including:
Formulating productive research questions
Finding and using primary and secondary sources
Taking effective notes
Examining model historical essays
Exploring different analytical and narrative writing strategies
Addressing issues of structure and organization
Considering the philosophical dilemmas involved in studying history
Instead of using a physical research library, students will learn to navigate digital databases, archives, and scholarly resources—mirroring the research practices of today’s historians and university scholars.
The camp also features individualized meetings with instructors, group discussions, and dedicated writing time in a focused, supportive setting.
